Case Study: Acoustic Secondary Glazing Installation at Cross Platts, Halifax
Client: Private Residential
Location: Cross Platts, Halifax, HX3 9TB
Product: Invision Secondary Glazing Systems
Project Overview
Invision Secondary Glazing was contacted to improve acoustic performance at a residential property in Cross Platts, Halifax. The property, situated close to a busy access road used by heavy goods vehicles traveling to a nearby quarry, was experiencing high levels of external noise pollution. The homeowners sought a discreet yet highly effective soundproofing solution that would preserve the aesthetics of their existing windows.
Challenges
Traffic noise from HGVs and quarry operations was disrupting daily life and affecting sleep, especially in the front bedroom. The existing single-glazed windows provided little to no noise insulation. The homeowners required a cost-effective and minimally invasive alternative to full window replacement.
Solution
We installed high-performance secondary glazing units tailored to each room's specific needs, using different types of laminated glass to maximize sound reduction:
Front Bedroom: 10.8mm Laminated Acoustic Glass
Rear Bedroom: 6.8mm Laminated Acoustic Glass
The use of laminated glass significantly reduces sound transmission by dampening vibrations, making it ideal for properties exposed to traffic, industrial, or urban noise. Our bespoke secondary glazing system was designed to seamlessly fit inside the original window frames, providing effective noise control while also improving thermal insulation and home security.
Key Benefits:
Enhanced acoustic performance
Up to 80% reduction in external noise
Improved energy efficiency
Added window security
Retains original window features — ideal for heritage homes and listed buildings.
Results
Post-installation, the residents reported a dramatic drop in external noise, particularly from HGV traffic. The tailored approach—using different thicknesses of laminated glass for front and rear elevations—ensured optimal soundproofing performance throughout the property.
Client Feedback
"We were amazed at the difference after installing secondary glazing. The noise from lorries used to wake us every day, but now the house is so much quieter. It’s made a huge improvement to our quality of life."
